Craft CMS is the content management system (CMS) that powers this site. This site runs on Craft 5.
See the Craft 5 Documentation for more about the core concepts described below.
Entries hold the content that appears on web pages — the homepage, a blog post, a contact page, and so on. Entries belong to sections and use fields to store their content.
Sections organize entries. There are three types:
Fields store content — a text field, an image field, a dropdown, and so on. Each entry shows a particular set of fields based on its entry type. Many pages use a Modules field to build the page out of reusable blocks (see the “Rebar Module System” page).
Go to Entries in the CP sidebar, find the entry, and click its title. Edit the fields using the labels and instructions as your guide, then click Save (top right).
Go to Entries, choose the section in the sidebar (a single, channel, or structure), and click New entry. Fill out the fields and click Save.
While editing, entries autosave as a draft as you work. To create a named draft, use the Drafts menu near the entry title and choose Create a draft.
Use the Preview or Share button near the top of the edit screen. Share gives you a link you can send to someone who isn’t logged in.
Craft keeps a history of saved Revisions. Open the revision menu near the entry title, choose a revision to view it, and use Revert entry to this revision to restore it. (In older Craft these were called “versions.”)
Modules are the building blocks of page content — text, images, videos, banners, and so on. You enter the content and it is formatted automatically. Modules can be added, removed, edited, and reordered at any time on the entry’s edit page. See the “Rebar Module System” page and the “Modules: Advanced Options” page for details.
Open the entry and find the Modules field (it may be on its own tab). Every module on the page is listed there in order.
In the Modules field, click + Add (or New entry) at the bottom and choose the module type. A new block appears with its fields; fill them in and Save.
Open the module’s actions menu (the ••• / gear at the top of the block) and choose Delete, then Save.
Drag a module by its move handle into its new position. Collapsing modules first (see below) makes long pages easier to reorder.
Use the module’s actions menu to Collapse or Expand, or double-click a module’s title bar to toggle it.
Assets are the files, images, and documents stored in Craft.
Go to Assets in the sidebar. Choose a volume/folder to see the files inside it.
Double-click an asset to open it, or use the asset’s actions to View. (If a “view” link isn’t available for a volume, it may not be publicly served.)
Find the asset, open its actions menu, and choose Replace file. Keeping the same filename means every place that references the asset updates automatically. See also the “Content Entry Tips” page.
Double-click the asset to open it, edit its fields (title, alt text, focal point, etc.), and Save.
Open the target volume/folder and drag the files into the window, or use the Upload button.
Categories are entry-like elements used to classify Assets, Entries, Users, and other elements. Categories always belong to a category group.
Category groups are logical groupings of categories. They are set up by development and shouldn’t be created ad hoc.
Go to Categories, choose a group, and click a category’s title to edit it. Use New category to add one to a group.
If you created the category, it’s generally safe to delete. Categories that have existed since launch may be referenced in important places — delete those only if you’re sure.
Users are the accounts that can sign in to Craft.
Go to Users. Click a user to edit their profile and Permissions (on the Permissions tab). Use New user to invite someone — Craft emails them a link to set a password.
No. Admins can change anything, including other users and site settings. Grant the narrowest permissions that let someone do their job, and reserve admin for those who truly need it.
Select the user, open the actions menu, and choose Suspend or Delete. When deleting, Craft lets you transfer that user’s content to another user.
Globals are pieces of content available on every page — for example the utility bar, navigation, and footer. Edit them under Globals in the sidebar.
