Upper Midwest Regional Learning Lab Formative Evaluation

  • March 31, 2015

The Upper Midwest Regional Learning Lab (UMRLL) is an innovative project initiated by School Food FOCUS with seven public school districts to change their procurement practices and improve the quality of the food served. This experiment asks, “Can the combined purchasing power of these districts influence the marketplace and increase the availability of more healthful, regionally sourced and sustainably produced school food?”

Two years into this 3.5-year learning lab, the emerging results demonstrate that through the collaborative power of the UMRLL, these seven districts can prioritize food items, negotiate with suppliers and thereby substantially improve the quality and availability of these foods.
