This article published in Nutrients finds that most school breakfasts (92%) and lunches (69%) served in SY 2014-2015 exceeded the limit for added sugars (10% of total calories) recommended in the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA). The primary culprits in the cafeteria were flavored skim milk, sweetened cold cereals, condiments, toppings, and cake. In addition, the researchers noted that over 24 hours 63% of children exceeded the recommended DGA limit for added sugars.
