Updated Nutrition Standards for School Meals Associated With Improved Weight Outcomes for Boys in Elementary School

This study tested whether the USDA’s updated nutrition standards in response to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 improved children’s health. In their results, the authors found that elementary-aged boys who ate school lunch experienced slower BMI growth than those who did not. These findings suggest that the nutritional quality of school meals should continue to be improved.
